Balls!
It was the Super Bowl and the Super Bowl called for balls.
With a Baltimorean sis-in-law I asked for recommendations on cuisine for the Ravens v. Niners, John v Jim Harbaugh Har-Bowl. Option A was a cake with Ray Lewis jumping out. Option B was a Smith Island Cake. 8-15 layers and figuring out how to replace the butter, cream and milk with something that would not damage me seemed like a lot of work coupled with a dubious chance of positive outcome.
So I spent the day making balls instead.
Chocolate peanut butter balls. Coconut snowballs. Veggie burger balls. I think I made something like 70 balls before kick-off. That might have been more work than 15 layers of cake. But they were balls!
And Alicia made marshmallow popcorn balls! And we bought teriyaki chicken balls! And Megan brought pistachios!
Wait a minute... pistachios are not balls. They are not even particularly round. But they are green so that is cool. And Jen brought kale which is also green and so also cool and totally appropriate for a Super Bowl ball gathering. Supposedly you can make kale balls, which actually call for... pistachios! But that that might be too hippy even for me. Which is saying something because I put kale in chocolate milkshakes.
And Nicki brought taffy fresh from the coast which was just awesome.
And there was much beer to wash down so many balls.
This is just scary. |
